Featured Live Product @ Micworks The AEA R-84 was derived from the technology used by Wes Dooley and the AEA team when they first re-ribboned the older RCA BX-44s and then later designed a newer rendition of the 44 for AEA called R-44. The R-84’s ribbon element consists of a thin strip of aluminum, which is thinner and more sensitive than most condenser mics, and gives a richer, thicker sound in the low-mids without becoming “boomy” as well as softens up the 2k – 5k range where most nasal sounding vocals really jump out. It's original design is for use as a trumpet or bone mic or as a very smooth vocal mic. But it is versatile enough to be used in more contemporary applications such as recording electric guitars and even bass. Keep in mind that ALL ribbons, not just the R-84, are EXTREMELY sensitive to high SPL levels, large blasts of wind, and most important…phantom power. If those three cautions are not followed, you will have a very decorative paper weight |
